Frans Pourbus the Younger
Frans Pourbus (the younger) , also: Purbis (I), Porbus (Frkr.) (* 1569 in Antwerp ; † before February 19, 1622 in Paris ) was a Flemish painter. In his oeuvre there are predominantly portraits, also as miniatures.
Live and act
Pourbus was the son of the painter Frans Pourbus (the elder) . He received his first artistic lessons from his father. After the death of his father in 1581 he inherited his drawings on Thursday, September 17, 1581 and his grandfather, the painter Pieter Pourbus , became his guardian. In 1588 he inherited his grandparents. A year later in 1586 which employed him Restoration of Bernard van Orley altarpiece in Notre Dame in Bruges . At the age of 21 he was accepted into the Guild of St. Luke in 1591 . Fernande Liggeren was his pupil in 1592 . Before 1600 he was in the service of the Brussels court. He also made a painting for the Brussels governors.
He later went to Italy, where he became court painter to the Duke of Mantua from 1600 . After his time in Mantua, he lived in Innsbruck , Naples , and in 1606 in Paris and Turin . Maria de 'Medici called him to Paris as court painter in 1609. In 1610 he settled in Paris, where he was under the kings Henry IV and Louis XIII. a busy artist and the most famous court painter of his era. From then on he called himself François Pourbus le Jeune. The painter Frans Pourbus (the younger) died in Paris in 1622 at the age of around 50. He was buried on Saturday, February 19, 1622.
Around 1600 Johann Wierix (* 1549; † around 1618) made engravings based on his works.

A male portrait from 1591 is called: F. Pourbus fil. Fr. fecit: An ° Dni 1591 , another half-length portrait of the same year, depicting a painter with palette and brushes, he signed with flourishes: francisco pourbus Fecit 1591 .
style
His portraits for the court in Brussels were influenced by the court painter Juan Pantoja de la Cruz from Spain . The Italian influence can be felt throughout his work.
