Rob Harmeling
Lodewijk Johannes Harmeling , called "Rob", (born December 4, 1964 in Hellendoorn ) is a former Dutch cyclist .
In 1985 Harmeling was already at the fore; In 1986 he became world champion in the team time trial over 100 kilometers (with John Talen , Tom Cordes , Gerrit de Vries ). This world championship victory was unusual because Harmeling had to let go and the team had only crossed the finish line with the required three drivers. In 1988 he won one stage of the Peace Tour and three stages of the Tour of Greece . In the same year he also took part in the Olympic Games and finished 38th in the street race.
In 1989 Harmeling moved to the professional camp with the Histor-Sigma cycling team from Belgium. In 1991 he received a contract with the Dutch cycling team TVM and rode for this team until October 1995. In 1991, 1992 and 1994 he competed in the Tour de France . In 1991 he was 158th and last ( Lanterne Rouge ), in 1992 he won the third stage, but had to give up exhausted in the 16th stage to La Bourboule . In 1994 he was disqualified in the 14th stage because he is said to have clung to a car.
In 1995, during the Tour of Murcia , Harmeling had a serious accident that stopped him this season. In 1996 he started as an amateur , but could no longer achieve his old performance and ended his active cycling career.
