Jimmy Casper (born May 28, 1978 in Montdidier (Somme) ) is a former French cyclist and sports director . During his active career, he won a stage of the Tour de France .

Cyclist

As a youth rider, Casper became the French sprint track cycling champion in 1994 . In 1996 he was junior champion in the points race .

In the adult sector, Casper rode as a professional road cycling for various French cycling teams from 1998 . He only started as an amateur in 1997 . That year he won the Tour de Loire-Atlantique .

During his professional career, he was often successful in one-day races and stages of tours in sprint, u. a. at the Deutschland Tour (1999, four stage wins) at the Grand Prix Cholet-Pays de la Loire (2002), at the Grand Prix de Denain (2005, 2006, 2009, 2011) and at the Châteauroux Classic de l'Indre (2005, 2009) . In 2006 he achieved his greatest success, he won the 1st stage of the Tour de France in the finish sprint. He managed the “feat” of finishing last overall (144th and 147th respectively) at his first two finishings at the Tour de France in Paris in 2001 and 2004 and winning the “ Red Lantern ”. At the Tour de France 2006 he narrowly missed this and was penultimate with 138th place. In 2008 he failed on the tour on the 17th stage due to the parental leave and retired.

On August 9, 2008 it was announced that during the Tour de France 2008 traces of the cortisone glucocorticoid were discovered in Casper's urine. Casper justified the positive doping result with the fact that when his certificate for the use of asthma drugs was renewed, another preparation had been noted and he had failed to obtain approval for the new product from the French Cycling Federation. This was later confirmed and Casper was acquitted of doping charges.

From 2009 to 2011 he drove for Saur-Sojasun (in 2009 still under the name Besson Chaussures-Sojasun ). For the 2012 season he signed a one-year contract with Ag2r La Mondiale with the option of an additional year.

At the end of the 2012 season, Casper ended his active career.

Sports director

At the beginning of 2013 he became the sporting director of the club team EC Raismes Petite-Forêt . After a short time, he separated from the club again because he did not think he was sufficiently involved. In March 2013 he announced that he was in contact with a DN1 club and wanted to find a job as a sports director. In the 2015 season he took over the management of the French Continental team Armée de Terre .
