Edwig Van Hooydonck

Edwig Van Hooydonck (born August 4, 1966 in Ekeren ) is a former Belgian cyclist .

Edwig Van Hooydonck was active as a professional from 1986 to 1996 and was able to win the Tour of Flanders twice, in 1989 and 1991 , one of the five monuments of cycling . When Brabant Arrow Van Hooydonck with four wins - 1987, 1991, 1993 and 1995 - the record winner. In the Tour de Romandie , the Étoile de Bessèges , the Tour of Andalusia and the Tour of Luxembourg , he was able to win stages. In 1989 he also won the Kuurne – Brussels – Kuurne race . In 1996 Van Hooydonck resigned as a cyclist. In May 2007, he told the Belgian newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen that he had realized that he had no chance against doped opponents. He himself had strictly rejected doping. He particularly criticized his former colleague Johan Museeuw .

Today Van Hooydonck is active as a local politician in his home town of Wuustwezel .
