Valery Nikolaevich Jardy

Valery Nikolajewitsch Jardy (Russian: Валерий Николаевич Ярды; born January 18, 1948 in Brenyaschi ; † August 1, 1994 in Cheboksary ) was a Soviet cyclist and Olympic champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Jardy (also Yardy) started cycling at the age of 12. In 1972 he was Olympic champion in the team time trial with the selection of the Soviet Union (with Boris Schuchow , Valeri Lichachev and Gennady Komnatow ) at the Summer Olympics in Munich , in the road race he was eliminated. At the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City , he was at the start with the Soviet four-man in the team time trial. He finished 9th at the time and Jardy was 17th in the street race .

At the UCI Road World Championships in 1970 he and his team won the team time trial title (with Jardy, Likhachev and Vladimir Sokolov ), then in 1973 the silver medal. In 1970 he won the stage race Grand Prix François Faber . In 1969 and 1972 he was the Soviet team time trial champion .

Honors

One of the streets in Cheboksary and the sports school there were named after him.
