Attilio Pavesi

Attilio Pavesi (born October 1, 1910 in Caorso , Italy ; † August 2, 2011 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) was an Italian cyclist and Olympic champion in cycling .

Career

Pavesi won the gold medal in the 100 km individual time trial at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles . He covered the distance in 2 hours 28 minutes. 5 seconds back, which corresponds to an average speed of 40.514 km / h. Together with Guglielmo Segato , the silver medalist in the individual competition, and Giuseppe Olmo , Pavesi also won the team competition.

In 1933 Pavesi became a professional in the Maino-Clement team, and in 1934 he drove for Bianchi . He did not achieve outstanding results as a professional. When World War II broke out , he was in Buenos Aires because of a six-day race and decided to stay in Argentina . There he opened a bike shop and organized bike races.

In 2008 the “Museo Attilio Pavesi” was opened in the cycle track of Fiorenzuola d'Arda and the cycle track has since been named after him. He died at the age of 100 in a senior citizens' home in Buenos Aires as the oldest living Olympic champion at the time.
