Caorso is an Italian commune with 4842 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Piacenza .
Agricultural and small businesses are located in Caorso. The Caorso nuclear power plant , which was shut down in 1990, is used today (2016) as a storage facility for radioactive waste. In 2010, a General Electric manager suggested stopping the dismantling and reactivating the nuclear power plant. After the nuclear disaster in Fukushima (March 2011), however, on June 12 and 13, 2011, a large majority of the Italian population rejected the re-entry into nuclear energy. After the government of Silvio Berlusconi resigned in November 2011 and two earthquakes occurred in the region in May 2012 , this plan is no longer being pursued.
The official patron saint of the community is Santa Maria Assunta . The people traditionally venerate San Rocco and consider him the real patron saint.
