Pianello Val Tidone is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2206 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Piacenza in Emilia-Romagna . The municipality is located about 29 kilometers southwest of Piacenza on the Tidone , into which the Chiarone flows, and belongs to the Comunità Montana valle del Tidone .

history

From the 7th century, the settlement is documented as the property of the Abbey of St. Columban in Bobbio. The former castle was razed by Friedrich Barbarossa in 1164. The fortifications on the 564 m high Rocca d'Olgisio from the 5th century can still be seen today.
