Mehdi Taghavi Kermani (born February 20, 1987 in Savakhurk, Mazandaran district ) is an Iranian wrestler . In 2009 and 2011 he became world champion in free style in lightweight .
Career
Mehdi Taghavi Kermani started wrestling as a teenager in 2002. He concentrated on the free style. He is a member of the Mooezipoor wrestling club and is trained by Gholam Mohammadi. He's a student. At a height of 1.70 meters, he wrestles as an adult in the lightweight, the weight class up to 66 kg body weight.
His international career began in 2003 when he took third place in the Asian Junior Championship (Cadets) in the 50 kg class. In 2004 he was Asian junior champion in Bishkek in the same age group and in the weight class up to 54 kg. In 2006 he was Asian junior champion in the age group Juniors in the weight class up to 60 kg in Abu Dhabi. In the same year he was then in Guatemala City Junior World Champion (Juniors) before Georgi Makishvili, Georgia and Samat Schakupow, Kazakhstan.
In 2007 Mehdi Taghavi Kermani started at the men's Asian championship in Bishkek and came third in the weight class | featherweight behind Basar Basargurujew from Uzbekistan and Shinya Odata from Japan. A few weeks later he was again Junior World Champion in Beijing ahead of Ismail Redzhep from Bulgaria and Jabrail Hasanow from Azerbaijan. In April 2008 he was able to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing by winning a tournament in Martigny / Switzerland. He relegated such good wrestlers as the multiple world champion Serafim Barzakow , Bulgaria, Albert Batirow , Belarus and Suren Markosjan from Armenia to the places. At the Games in Beijing he succeeded in the lightweight victory over Haislan Garcia Veranes, Canada in the first round. In his second fight he was defeated by the later Olympic champion Ramasan Shahin from Turkey and then in the consolation round just against Geandry Garzón Caballero from Cuba (1: 2 rounds, 4: 5 points), with which he only came in tenth place.
In 2009 Mehdi Taghavi Kermani was first Asian champion in Pattaya ahead of Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu , Japan and the two Koreans Yang Chun-Son (North) and Kim Dae-sung (South). He presented his good form in September 2009 at the World Championships in Herning, Denmark. There he defeated Schalwa Agajew, Georgia, Andrei Stadnik , Ukraine, the silver medalist from Beijing, Leonid Spiridonow , Kazakhstan, Muhammad Ilkan , Turkey and Rasul Dschukajew , Russia and thus became world champion for the first time. However, he could not defend this title at the 2010 World Cup in Moscow. Although he won there first over Ichtijar Nawrusow, Uzbekistan and Andrei Stadnik, but then lost to Geandry Garzon Caballero. Since he did not reach the final, he did not make it into the consolation round and had to be satisfied with 11th place. Two months later he was unable to defend his Asian championship title in Guangzhou either, because he lost there in the final battle against Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu and finished second behind him.
In 2011 he fully concentrated on the World Cup in Istanbul and was successful, because he was there with victories over Dejan Mitrow, Macedonia, Inokentij Inokentijew, Kazakhstan, Ali Schabanow , Mawlwt Batirow , Russia, Livan Lopez Ascuy , Cuba and Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu lightweight world champion for the second time.
In 2012 Mehdi Taghavi Kermani won his second title at an Asian championship in Gumi / South Korea. He won ahead of Maxat Dautbajew, Kazakhstan and Parveen Rana, India. He then went to the Olympic Games in London with high hopes. He met there in his first fight on the Cuban Livan Lopez Ascuy, whom he had defeated at the 2011 World Cup. In London the Cuban turned the tables and came to a clear point victory over Mehdi Taghavi Kermani, who was eliminated because the Cuban did not reach the final battle. Only the 14th place remained for him.
