Arnaud Geyre

Arnaud Geyre (born April 21, 1935 in Pau ; † February 20, 2018 in Château-Thierry ) was a French cyclist and Olympic champion in cycling .

Athletic career

He had his greatest sporting success at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne . There he won the gold medal in the team classification in road races with Michel Vermeulin and Maurice Moucheraud . In the individual Olympic race he won the silver medal behind Ercole Baldini .

At the UCI Road World Championships in 1956 he was classified as 8th when Frans Mahn won . As an amateur, he had won some important races in France such as Paris-Auxerre . He won the French championship in team time trial in 1956, as well as the championship in team pursuit .

From 1958 to 1963 he was active as a professional driver. Among the professionals, he mainly won smaller races. His most significant success was a stage win in the Tour de l'Aude in 1961.
