At the First Modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896, Konstantinidis won the 87-kilometer bike marathon on the Athens-Marathon-Athens route. Although he broke down twice on the way back from Marathon and even had to borrow the bike of a spectator standing by the track for the last few kilometers, his lead over the runner-up, the German August Gödrich, was almost twenty minutes. Konstantinidis also took part in the races over ten and 100 kilometers, but retired after a fall.

Ten years after his Olympic victory , he took part in the road race of the Interim Games in Athens in 1906 , but did not reach the goal.
