Pierfranco Vianelli (born October 20, 1946 in Provaglio d'Iseo , Brescia ) is a former Italian cyclist .
Athletic career
Vianelli for as an amateur for the Pedale Bresciano club. He won the gold medal in the individual road race at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City , following his compatriot Mario Zanin in this discipline . His winning time over the distance of 196 kilometers was four hours, 41 minutes, 25 seconds and 24 hundredths, which put him 84 seconds ahead of second-placed Dane Leif Mortensen . In addition, he won the bronze medal in the team time trial over 100 kilometers with the Italian team.
After the Olympic Games, he moved to the professional camp and finished seventh in the overall standings at the Tour de France in 1969 . In 1970 he finished second at the Giro dell'Appennino . A year later he won the 17th stage of the Giro d'Italia , which ended on the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe of the Großglockner , and came fifth in the overall ranking. In 1973 he ended his active career.
