Katrineholm is a city in the Swedish province of Södermanland County and in the historical province of Södermanland . It is the capital of the municipality of Katrineholm and received the city rights in 1917. The town got its name from the nearby lake Näsnaren lying mansion Cathrineholm .
Originally the manor house was called Fulbonäs , but the then owner Jacob von der Linde had the name changed in the 16th century in honor of his wife Catharina Gyllenhorn.
history
For the prehistory see: Viksbergets fornborg or Glysas Grab ( ship placement at Skirtorp).
The city's history began in 1862 with the commissioning of the Västra stambanan between Stockholm and Gothenburg and thus the Katrineholm station. With the completion of the Södra stambanan (originally Östra stambanan ) from Katrineholm to Norrköping in 1866, Katrineholm became an important railway junction . A settlement quickly developed around the station. Carl Fredriksson opened a sawmill in 1876 , August Kullberg opened a trading company in 1878 and Gustaf Robert Grönkvist opened his forge in 1886. In 1917, when the town charter was granted, the place already had 6,615 inhabitants. Schools were founded shortly afterwards, such as the practical school and the technical school.
traffic
Today several imperial roads ( riksväg ) run through Katrineholm and cross there. The city also has a small airfield with a grass runway.
economy
The city has several industrial areas, including SKF , Ericsson and a number of concrete construction element manufacturers. The Bus division of Scania closed its doors some time ago. Due to the good rail connection to Stockholm there are many day commuters to the capital. A hospital is available for medical care .
City partnerships exist with Halver in Germany, Rschew in Russia and Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire in France .
