Life

Ragnar Thoursie studied German, Psychology and Religion at Stockholm University . In 1945 he made his debut with the collection of poems Emaljögat (The Glass Eye) , which was welcomed as an important contribution to modern Swedish poetry. In another volume of poetry, Nya sidor och dagsljus (New Pages and Daylight) , which appeared in 1952

“He realized his poetic intention to“ discover what was closest and therefore ignored ”; He looks at things through the eyes of the 'scissors grinder' and conjures up a very real suburban existence under the sign of peaceful everyday life in Sweden. "

- Ulf Wittrock

By 1957 he published several volumes of poetry; his modernism influenced Tomas Tranströmer , Folke Isaksson and Kristina Lugn , among others . Travels through the rubble landscape of devastated post-war Europe made him a staunch socialist. He wanted to help create an ideal and just society and went into public service. During the time in which he dealt with labor market policy as a civil servant until his retirement, he was not active as a writer. He later re-published poetry and his autobiography. In addition to two volumes with childhood memories, Elefantsjukan came out in 2003 . Berättelser från byråkratin (Elephant disease. Stories from the bureaucracy) , where he ironically settles accounts with the social democrats, which have betrayed their ideals.

In the nursing home he wrote his last collection of poems, which appeared in 2009 under the title Sånger från äldreomsorgen (Songs of the Elderly) . The subjects of this poetry close to the prosana include the caregivers, memories of his parents, getting older and the fear of death. He dedicated this work to "the courageous employees of the elderly".

Thoursie's circle of friends included the German writer Nelly Sachs , who lives in Sweden . The Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme quoted parts of a poem by Thoursie several times in his speeches.

Ragnar Thousie has received numerous prizes, including the Svenska Dagbladet Literature Prize (1952), the Bellman Prize (1987), the Tegnér Prize (1997) and the Samfundet De Nio Prize for Literature (2001).
