Kristina Lugn ( pronunciation : [ kɹisˌtiːna ˈlɵŋːn ], born November 14, 1948 in Tierp ; † May 9, 2020 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish poet and playwright and a member of the Swedish Academy .

Lugn grew up in Skövde , where her father was an officer in the Skaraborg tank regiment; her mother was a teacher. Kristina Lugn wrote both poetry and dramas . Since her debut in 1972 with the work Om jag inte (Eng: If I don't ), eight collections of poetry have appeared.

Since the death of actor Allan Edwall , Lugn also ran the Brunnsgatan 4 theater in Stockholm. Her plays, which were performed not only at Brunnsgatan 4 but also at the Royal Dramatic Theater , were very popular with audiences. Some of her most successful pieces were Tant Blomma , Idla-flickorna , Titta en älg! and Kvinnorna vid Svansjön (titles in German: "Tante Blume", "Die Idla-Turnerinnen", "Look, a moose!" and "Die Frauen am Schwanensee").

In her works, death, loneliness, fear of the midlife crisis and a suffocating, but desirable normality are the central themes. These subjects are dealt with in drastic terms. In 2002 Kristina Lugn also had a talk show entitled Seg kväll med Lugn (Tough Evening with Lugn) on Swedish television . On October 6, 2006, Lugn was elected to the Swedish Academy , where she took place on December 20, 2006 in chair No. 14 as the successor to Lars Gyllensten . The playwright and director Martina Montelius is her daughter.

Kristina Lugn died in Stockholm in May 2020 at the age of 71.
