Bo Ralph ( pronunciation : [ ˌbuː ˈɹalːf ], born October 4, 1945 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish linguist , professor of Scandinavian languages and member of the Swedish Academy .

Life

After graduating in philosophy in 1969 and doing further research in phonology , Ralph received his doctorate in philosophy in 1975 and finally became a lecturer in 1977 . He worked for a long time with Sture Allén on the Lexikalisk databas (lexical database) project at the Institute for Linguistic Data Processing ( Språkdata ) at Gothenburg University . 1982–1984 he was professor at the Institute for Nordic Languages ​​at Stockholm University before returning to Gothenburg. In 1986 he published a Swedish dictionary. He mainly works in the field of lexicography .

In 1999 he was elected to the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and, as the successor to Torgny Segerstedt , to the Swedish Academy in Chair No. 2.
