Tua Forsström
Tua Birgitta Forsström (born April 2, 1947 in Porvoo , Uusimaa ) is a Finnish-Swedish writer who, in addition to Finland and Sweden, is attracting more attention in the English-speaking world .
Life
Tua Forsström made her literary debut in 1972 with the volume of poetry En dikt om kärlek och annat , but only had her breakthrough in the English-speaking world in 1987 with her sixth volume of poetry, Snöleopard , whose English translation Snow Leopard won the British Poetry Book Society Translation Award in 1990.
In 2006 the British publisher Bloodaxe Books published an extensive collection of her poems under the title I Studied Once at a Wonderful Faculty , which included the volumes Snöleopard , Parkerna (1992), Efter att ha tillbringat en natt bland hästar and a new sequence of poems entitled Minerals contained. In addition, in 2007 a German-language edition of selected poems in translations by Paul Berf from the years 1987 to 2006 with the title I have an amber ring that shimmers through the lake water was published.
Her work is shaped by depicting the landscapes of Finland and traveling, but also by conflicts in relationships. She often uses quotes from Egon Friedell , Ludwig Wittgenstein , Hermann Hesse and Friedrich Nietzsche , some of which she inserts directly into her poems, but also uses them as an introduction or as subtitles for individual sequences. In the volume of poetry Efter att ha tillbringat en natt bland hästar , which was awarded the Nordic Council's literary prize , she used quotes from the 1979 film Stalker by Andrei Arsenjewitsch Tarkowski , which she used as the subtitle of parts and placed on individual pages without direct reference to the source only made up for it in a complete list of quotations at the end of the collection of poems.
On February 7, 2019 she was elected to the Swedish Academy .
