Allan Edwall
Allan Edwall (born August 25, 1924 in Hissmofors , Jämtland , Sweden , † February 7, 1997 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish actor , writer , director and musician .
life and career
Allan Edwall was the child of a typical Swedish working-class family and the son of a trade unionist and communist. From 1949 to 1952 he attended the Dramaturgy and Theater School in Stockholm and subsequently acted in more than 400 television, radio and theater productions. He also worked as a director and writer. The film Ake und seine Welt , for which he directed and wrote the screenplay, received the main prize of the Semana Internacional de Cine de Valladolid in 1985 . As a singer, he complained about the injustices of our society. From 1986 onwards he worked in his own theater in Stockholm both as an actor and as a ticket seller and teller.
Allan Edwall became known in Germany primarily in the role of father Anton from the television series and the television films Michel from Lönneberga (based on Astrid Lindgren ) and the role of Paradise Oscar in Rasmus and the Vagabond . In 1984 he played the supporting role of Bald Per in the film adaptation of the Lindgren novel Ronja the robber's daughter. He can also be seen in the 1977 film adaptation of the Löwenherz brothers and in Madita , both also based on Astrid Lindgren.
Edwall gained further international fame through his appearances in some of Ingmar Bergman's films , including Die Jungfrauenquelle (1960) and The Hour of the Wolf (1968). His best-known role for Bergman was that of the dying theater director Oscar Ekdahl in the film Fanny and Alexander in 1982 .
His marriage to the journalist Britt Edwall (1957-1965) had three children: Mattias Edwall , who became a photographer, and Måns and Malin. He has another son, Michael, who is from a previous marriage.
