The Kungliga Dramatiska Teaterns Elevskola , Dramatens elevskola for short in Stockholm was an important drama school in Sweden . It was operated by the Royal Dramatic Theater ( Dramaten ).

history

The school was founded in 1787 by Gustav III. founded. The affiliation to the Royal Dramatic Theater led to practical training which, in addition to the compulsory language training, also included dance, fencing and masking. Originally one year of training became three at the end of the year, including a mandatory year at the National Theater.

In 1964, Ingmar Bergman , the then director of the Dramaten, promoted the dissolution of the school, which was perceived as stressful, from the theater, a decision that he later regretted. As a successor, three university institutions were created in Gothenburg , Lund and Luleå , and Teaterhögskolan i Stockholm remained independent to this day.
