Gerda Lundequist
Gerda Carola Cecilia Lindqvist (born February 14, 1871 in Stockholm , † October 23, 1959 in Stockholm) was a Swedish stage actress . Her legendary Ibsen and Strindberg interpretations earned the tragic actress the honorary title of Swedish Sarah Bernhardt .
Life
Gerda Lundequist grew up as a foster child. Originally she wanted to be an opera singer, due to a lack of free places at university, she attended the acting class of the Royal Opera from 1886 to 1889. Her mentor was Signe Hebbe, a respected singer and actress at the time. She then studied at the Dramatens elevskola until 1891. She made her debut in 1889.
Gerda Lundequist was also a committed women's rights activist. She was a member of the Fogelstad group, which pioneered the typical Swedish folk high schools for women.
Among her few film works, the silent film epic Gösta Berling (1924) by Mauritz Stiller is probably the best-known work.
The daughter Cecilia emerged from his marriage to Alfred Dahlström (1908–1923).
