John B. Sosnowski
John Bartholomew Sosnowski (born December 8, 1883 in Detroit , Michigan , † July 16, 1968 there ) was an American politician . Between 1925 and 1927 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .
Career
John Sosnowski attended public schools in his home country and a military school. During the Spanish-American War he was a soldier in the US Army . He was deployed to Cuba and the Philippines . After the war ended, Sosnowski remained in the army until 1906. He served in the administration of the US Military Academy in West Point .
After completing his military service, he returned to Detroit, where he worked in the real estate industry and in the stock market. Between 1909 and 1916 Sosnowski was a captain in the Michigan National Guard. He was deployed on the border with Mexico in 1916 , where tensions arose at the time. Between 1918 and 1924 he was chairman of the Detroit City Drinking Water Commission. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party . In the 1924 congressional elections he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded Robert H. Clancy on March 4, 1925 . Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 1926, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1927 .
After leaving the US House of Representatives, Sosnowski worked again in the real estate industry and in the stock market. Between 1932 and 1944 he was a delegate to all Republican National Conventions . In 1942, 1944 and 1946, he applied unsuccessfully for his return to Congress. Between 1947 and 1951 he worked for the Michigan Liquor Control Commission . John Sosnowski died on July 16, 1968 in his hometown of Detroit.
