Mark Schauer

Mark H. Schauer (born October 2, 1961 in Howell , Michigan ) is an American politician . Between 2009 and 2011 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Mark Schauer attended Howell High School until 1980 and then Albion College until 1984 . He then studied until 1986 at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo . He graduated from Michigan State University in 1996 . He had already started a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1984 and 1987, Schauer was employed by the Planning Department in Calhoun County . From 1994 to 1997 he was a member of the Battle Creek City Council . Between 1997 and 2003 he was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives ; thereafter he was a member of the State Senate from 2003 to 2008 , where he became leader of the Democratic Party.

In the 2008 congressional election , Schauer was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded Tim Walberg on January 3, 2009 . Since he was defeated by Republican Walberg in the following elections in 2010 , he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 2011 . Mark Schauer was a member of the Agriculture Committee and the Transport and Infrastructure Committee, as well as several sub-committees. He is married and lives privately in Battle Creek.
