John Lesinski junior

John Lesinski Jr. (born December 28, 1914 in Detroit , Michigan , †  October 21, 2005 in Dearborn , Michigan) was an American politician . Between 1951 and 1965 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Lesinski was the son of Congressman of the same name, John Lesinski Sr. When the younger Lesinski was eleven, the family moved to Dearborn, where he attended public schools including Fordson High School . Between 1933 and 1937 he served in the US Navy . During the Second World War he was reactivated for military service in the Navy, in which he was deployed between 1941 and 1945. For his military achievements he was awarded the Purple Heart .

From 1939 to 1943 (also during his military service) and again from 1951 to 1954 he was Vice President of Hamtramck Lumber Co. He also managed Dearborn Properties . Politically, Lesinski was a member of the Democratic Party . In the 1950 congressional election he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th  constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded his father, who died in May 1950, on January 3, 1951. After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1965 . During this time, the Korean War and the beginning of the Vietnam War took place . In addition, the 22nd , 23rd and 24th amendments to the Constitution were passed.

In 1964, John Lesinski was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. Between 1968 and 1973 he was a member of the Wayne County County Council . Then Lesinski withdrew from politics; he died on October 21, 2005 in Dearborn.
