Archibald Bard Darragh (born December 23, 1840 in La Salle , Monroe County , Michigan , †  February 21, 1927 in St. Louis , Michigan) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1909 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Archibald Darragh attended both public and private schools. He then studied until 1859 at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor . He then worked as a teacher. During the Civil War he was a soldier in an infantry unit in the Union Army . He managed to become a captain by 1865. In 1867, Darragh became a school councilor in Jackson . In 1870 he moved to St. Louis, where he worked in the banking industry. In 1872 he was a treasurer in Gratiot County .

Politically, Darragh was a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives in 1882 and 1883 . In 1893 he was elected Mayor of St. Louis. He was also on the board of directors of the Michigan State Mental Hospital. In the congressional elections of 1900 he was elected in the eleventh constituency of Michigan to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded William S. Mesick on March 4, 1901 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1909 .

In 1908 Archibald Darragh renounced another candidacy. He then withdrew from politics. In the following years he worked again in the banking industry. He died on February 21, 1927 in St. Louis.
