John Moolenaar
John R. Moolenaar (born May 8, 1961 in Midland , Michigan ) is an American politician . He has represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives since 2015 .
Career
John Moolenaar attended Herbert Henry Dow High School in his native Midland. In 1983 he graduated from Hope College in Holland . He then studied chemistry at Harvard University until 1989 . Later he worked at least temporarily in the chemical industry. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1997 and 2000 he was a member of the Midland City Council; from 2003 to 2008 he was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives . From 2011 to 2014 he was a member of the state senate there .
In the 2014 congressional election , Moolenaar was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Michigan , DC in the fourth constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded David Lee Camp , who was no longer running, on January 3, 2015 . He won with 56:39 percent of the vote against the Democrat Jeff Holmes. Since he was confirmed in office in 2016, he will also serve in the 115th Congress of the United States, which meets on January 3, 2017 . His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018.
