Byron G. Stout

Byron Gray Stout (born January 12, 1829 in Richmond , Ontario County , New York , †  June 19, 1896 in Pontiac , Michigan ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1831, Byron Stout came to the Michigan Territory with his parents , where he attended public schools. He then studied until 1851 at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor . He also studied law. In 1853 and 1854 he was the principal and teacher at Pontiac High School . At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1855 and 1857 he sat as a member of the House of Representatives from Michigan , of which he was president in 1857, succeeding Cyrus Lovell . In 1860, Stout was a member and president of the State Senate . In 1868, 1880 and 1888 he was a delegate to the respective Democratic National Conventions . Before 1869, Stout was also temporarily active in the banking industry.

In the congressional elections of 1890 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded Mark S. Brewer on March 4, 1891 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1892, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1893 . After leaving Congress, Stout retired from politics. Between 1893 and 1896 he was President of Oakland County Bank . He died on June 19, 1896 in Pontiac, where he was also buried.
