Hansen Hashim Clarke (born March 2, 1957 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ). From 2011 to 2013 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Hansen Clarke, whose father of Bangladesh dates back to the public schools attended in Detroit, the Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire , the Governor's Academy in Massachusetts and then to 1984, the Cornell University in Ithaca in the state of New York . After completing a law degree at Georgetown University in Washington, DC and being admitted to the bar in 1987, he began to work in his new profession.

Politically, Clarke joined the Democratic Party . He served on the staff of Congressman John Conyers in 1989 and 1990 . In 1991 and between 1999 and 2003 he was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives . In 2005, Hansen Clarke ran unsuccessfully for the office of Mayor of Detroit . From 2003 to 2010 he was a member of the Michigan Senate .

In the 2010 congressional election , he was elected as a candidate for his party's 13th constituency in Michigan in the US House of Representatives in Washington, where he succeeded Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick on January 3, 2011 . He had defeated the former long-time MP in the Democratic Primary with 47 percent of the vote; Kilpatrick had come up with 41 percent. Subsequently, he managed a safe victory against Republican John Hauler in the actual elections . This made him one of the few Democrats who could move into Congress in these elections . In the 112th Congress , Clarke served on the Homeland Security Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee . After the regular redesign of the constituencies in the wake of the 2010 census, Clarke competed in the primaries in the newly formed 14th constituency of Michigan against his official and party colleague Gary Peters (previously 13th district) and was defeated, so that his term in the House of Representatives on January 3rd 2013 ended.

After Peters had decided to run for the US Senate in the 2014 election, Clarke tried to run again for the 14th Congressional district in the same election, but failed in the Democratic primary on August 8, 2014 against Brenda Lawrence .
