H. Olin Young
Horace Olin Young (born August 4, 1850 in New Albion , Cattaraugus County , New York , † August 5, 1917 in Ishpeming , Michigan ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1913 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .
Career
H. Olin Young attended his home public schools including New Albion High School and the Randolph Institute . He later moved to Ishpeming, Michigan, where he worked in accounting. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1879, he began to work in Ishpeming in his new profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1879 he was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives. Between 1886 and 1896 he was a district attorney in Marquette County .
In the congressional elections of 1902 Young was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the twelfth constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded Carlos D. Shelden on March 4, 1903 . After four re-elections, he was initially able to complete five legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1913 . Young was also sustained in the 1912 election. On March 4, 1913, he entered a new legislative period. However, the defeated candidate William Josiah MacDonald of the Progressive Party objected to the outcome of this election . Young resigned on May 16, 1913, before Congress had decided to contest the election. MacDonald's objection was later granted and he was able to take over the mandate on August 23 of this year.
After leaving the US House of Representatives, Olin Young was President of Miner's National Bank in Ishpeming. He died in this city on August 5, 1917.
