Paul Brentwood Henry (born July 9, 1942 in Chicago , Illinois , †  July 31, 1993 in Grand Rapids , Michigan ) was an American politician . Between 1985 and 1993 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Paul Henry attended Pasadena High School in California until 1959 and then Wheaton College in Illinois until 1963 . He then studied at Duke University in Durham ( North Carolina ) until 1970 . In the meantime he worked for the Peace Corps in Liberia and Ethiopia from 1963 to 1965 . He later taught political science at Calvin College , Grand Rapids. Politically, Henry was a member of the Republican Party . Between 1975 and 1978 he was a member of the Michigan State Education Committee. He was then a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 1979 to 1982 and a member of the State Senate from 1983 to 1984 .

In the 1984 congressional elections , he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded Harold S. Sawyer on January 3, 1985 . After four re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death . Since January 3, 1993 he represented there as the successor to Howard Wolpe the third district of his state. During his time in the US House of Representatives, the 27th Amendment to the Constitution was passed there in 1992 .

Shortly before the 1992 elections, which he won again, Henry was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He underwent appropriate treatment and was able to take the oath for a new legislative term in Congress on January 3, 1993. After that, his health deteriorated. Paul Henry succumbed to his illness on July 31, 1993 in Grand Rapids.
