John W. Moon

John Wesley Moon (born January 18, 1836 in Ypsilanti , Michigan , †  April 5, 1898 in Muskegon , Michigan) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1895 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Moon attended public schools in his home country. In 1854, he moved to the northern part of Michigan state, where he worked in the wood industry. He settled in Muskegon in 1856, where he also worked in the timber business. Soon he also got into banking. In his new hometown, among other things, he was a chamberlain and mayor. Politically, Moon was a member of the Republican Party . He was elected to the Michigan Senate in 1884 and 1886 . In 1887 he became president of the Muskegon Savings Bank ; in 1891 he was on the Muskegon Education Committee.

In the congressional elections of 1892 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded Democrat Harrison H. Wheeler on March 4, 1893 . Since he refused to run again in 1894, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1895 . After he left the House of Representatives, John Moon resumed his previous activities. He died on April 5, 1898 in Muskegon, where he was also buried.
