William C. Maybury

William Cotter Maybury (born November 20, 1848 in Detroit , Michigan , † May 6, 1909 ) was an American politician .

Maybury studied law at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and then attended the university's law department . He was accepted into the bar in the early 1870s and practiced in Detroit. From 1876 to 1880 he was city ​​attorney for the city. Maybury then worked as a lecturer for forensics at the Michigan College of Medicine in Detroit between 1881 and 1882 .

From March 4, 1883 to March 3, 1887 Maybury represented the state of Michigan as a Democrat in the US House of Representatives . In 1886 he renounced his candidacy and began to practice again in Detroit. Maybury held the office of Mayor of the city from 1897 to 1905 . During this time he ran for governor of Michigan in 1900 , but was defeated by his Republican opponent Aaron T. Bliss .

Maybury died in Detroit in 1909 and was buried in Elmwood Cemetery .
