Dan Kildee
Daniel Timothy "Dan" Kildee (born August 11, 1958 in Flint , Michigan ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . He has represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives since 2013 .
Career
Dan Kildee is the nephew of former Congressman Dale E. Kildee . He studied at the University of Michigan branch at Flint and then Central Michigan University at Mount Pleasant .
He later embarked on a political career. Between 1977 and 2009 he held various local offices at the district level. He also founded the Genesee County Land Bank . He was also co-founder and managing director of the Center for Community Progress , an institution for regional development. From 1977 to 1985 he was a member of the Flint City Education Committee; from 1985 to 1997 he served on the Genesee County County Council. He was then district treasurer between 1997 and 2009. In 2010 he initially applied for his party's nomination for the upcoming gubernatorial elections . He soon withdrew his candidacy.
In the 2012 congressional election , Kildee was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded his uncle, who was no longer running, on January 3, 2013. In the elections, he beat his Republican rival Jim Slezak with 65 percent of the vote. After two re-elections so far in 2014 and 2016, he can continue to exercise his office today. His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018.
Dan Kildee is married and has three children. The family lives in Flint.
