Henry W. Seymour

Henry William Seymour (born July 21, 1834 in Brockport , Monroe County , New York , †  April 7, 1906 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1888 and 1889 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Seymour attended his homeland public schools as well as the Brockport Collegiate Institute and Canandaigua Academy . In 1855 he graduated from Williams College in Williamstown ( Massachusetts ). Seymour studied in Albany the law , without ever working as a lawyer. Until 1872 he worked in trade in his hometown of Brockport. That year he moved to Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan where he worked in the timber and agriculture industries. Politically, Seymour was a member of the Republican Party . Between 1880 and 1882 he was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives ; from 1882 to 1888 he was a member of the State Senate - with one interruption from 1884 to 1886 .

After the death of Congressman Seth C. Moffatt , Seymour was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington at the by-election due for the eleventh seat of Michigan, where he took up his new mandate on February 14, 1888. Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 1888, he could only finish the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1889 . After leaving the US House of Representatives, Henry Seymour no longer appeared politically. He died on April 7, 1906 during a visit to the federal capital, Washington, and was buried in his birthplace, Brockport.
