Edward Spread

Edward Spread (born November 10, 1831 in Schalkau , Germany , †  March 3, 1887 in Negaunee , Michigan ) was an American politician of German origin. Between 1883 and 1885 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Born in Thuringia , Edward Bendung attended public schools in his homeland. After the failed revolution of 1848 , he emigrated to the United States, where he first settled in Kalamazoo County in Michigan. In 1851 he moved to Detroit , where he was employed by a trading company. In 1859 he moved on to Negaunee, where he worked in iron mining from 1864. He later expanded his business into gold and silver mines in Colorado .

Politically, Spread was a member of the Republican Party . In 1873 and 1874 he was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives ; from 1877 to 1878 he was a member of the State Senate . He was also mayor of Negaunee twice from 1879 to 1882. In the congressional elections of 1882 , Breit was elected to the then newly created eleventh constituency of Michigan in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on January 3, 1883. Since he renounced another candidacy in 1884, he could only complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1885 .

Edward Berung died exactly two years after leaving the US House of Representatives on March 3, 1887. He was buried in Marquette .
