Weston E. Vivian
Weston Edward Vivian (born October 25, 1924 in Newfoundland ) is a former American politician . Between 1965 and 1967 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .
Career
In September 1929, Weston Vivian came with his parents to the United States, where the family in Cranston in the state of Rhode Iceland settled. There he attended public schools. During World War II , he served in the US Navy between 1943 and 1946 . After the war he continued his education first at Union College in Schenectady ( New York ) and then until 1949 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He later studied philosophy at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor until 1959 . From 1951 to 1959 he lectured at this university; his specialty was electronic research.
Politically, Vivian joined the Democratic Party . From 1959 to 1960 he headed their local section in Ann Arbor. At that time he was a consultant for various companies in the electronic field. In the 1964 congressional elections , Vivian was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded George Meader on January 3, 1965 . Since he in the elections of 1966 the Republicans Marvin L. Esch defeated, he could only one term in until January 3, 1967 Congress completed. This was determined by the events of the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement .
After leaving the US House of Representatives, Vivian was Vice President of Vicom Industries, Inc. He also served as a telecommunications consultant. Vivian also lectured at the Institute for Political Studies at the University of Michigan. Today he lives very old in Ann Arbor.
