Dale E. Kildee

Dale Edward Kildee (born September 16, 1929 in Flint , Michigan ) is an American politician . Between 1977 and 2013 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Dale Kildee attended St. Mary's High School in his hometown of Flint until 1947 . He was then enrolled at the Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit until 1952 . He then studied until 1955 at the University of Detroit , where he was trained as a teacher. In 1958 and 1959 he was on a Rotary Foundation scholarship at the University of Peshawar in Pakistan , where he studied history and political science. In 1961 he finished his education at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor . Between 1954 and 1964 he taught at times as a teacher.

Politically, Kildee joined the Democratic Party . Between 1965 and 1974 he was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives ; in 1975 and 1976 he was a member of the State Senate . From 1956 to 1977 he was a delegate to all regional Democratic party conventions in Michigan. In 1968 and 1984 he took part in the respective Democratic National Conventions .

In the 1976 congressional election , Kildee was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the seventh constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded Donald W. Riegle on January 3, 1977 . After 17 re-elections, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until January 3, 2013. He was last elected in 2010 with 53 percent of the vote in the fifth electoral district; until 1993 he had represented the seventh district and then until 2003 the ninth. He was a member of the Education and Labor Committee, the Mineral Resources Committee, and two sub-committees each. In 2012 he decided not to run again. After the 2012 election, his mandate fell to his nephew Daniel , who replaced him in Congress on January 3, 2013.

Dale Kildee is married to Gayle Heyn and lives privately in Flint.
