Deborah Ann "Debbie" Dingell (born November 23, 1953 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . Since January 2015, she has represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Deborah Insley, her maiden name, attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart school in Grosse Pointe and then studied until 1975 at Georgetown University in Washington, DC She then worked in the private sector. Among other things, she was President of the General Motors Foundation and Director of Public Relations ( Global Community Relations and Government Relations ) at GM . From 2006 to 2014 she served on the board of directors of Wayne University in Detroit.

From 1981 she was married to John Dingell , who represented Michigan in the US House of Representatives between 1955 and 2015.

In the congressional elections of 2014 , Dingell was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the twelfth constituency of Michigan, where she succeeded her husband on January 3, 2015, who did not stand for re-election after 60 years in Congress . She won 65 to 31 percent of the vote against Republican Terry Bowman.

She was elected in 2016 and 2018 and is currently a member of the 116th United States Congress , which runs until January 3, 2021.
