William M. Brodhead

William McNulty Brodhead (born September 12, 1941 in Cleveland , Ohio ) is an American politician . Between 1975 and 1983 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Brodhead attended St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland until 1959 and then studied at Wayne State University in Detroit until 1965 . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and his admission to the bar in 1968, he began to work in his new profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

He was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 1970 and 1972 . Between 1968 and 1974 he was also a delegate at the Democratic Party Conventions at the state level. In the 1974 congressional election , Brodhead was elected to the 17th  constituency of Michigan in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Martha Griffiths on January 3, 1975 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1983 .

In 1982 Brodhead declined to run again. In the following years he practiced as a lawyer again. In 1994 he lost in the Democratic Primary for the election to the US Senate against Milton Robert Carr , who in turn was defeated by the Republican Spencer Abraham . Until 2003 he worked in a joint law firm.
