Web intelligence

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Web Intelligence is a buzzword coined at the beginning of the 2000s that is composed of the web and intelligence . The term is used differently in science, in particular in computer science , than in business, more precisely by consulting companies and software manufacturers. While computer scientists understand the intelligence part of the buzzword in the sense of artificial intelligence , providers of consulting and software tend to focus on the aspect of the automatic extraction of economically relevant information from the Internet.

Web Intelligence in Business

The Fraunhofer Institute for Labor Economics and Organization (IAO) describes Web Intelligence as the entirety of software , procedures and processes for the systematic collection and evaluation of data obtained via the Internet .

In contrast to Business Intelligence , where the company's internal data is the source, Web Intelligence uses all available data from the Internet.

The goals of Web Intelligence in the company are, for example, to gain knowledge about one's own company or the success of one's own products - whereby it is important that this information is processed automatically and the large amount of information available on the Internet is reduced to the interesting amount . Companies search the social networks for their product names and evaluate how often the name has been mentioned - but also whether and in what context a link to the company website is given.

Web Intelligence in Science

In the scientific field, Web Intelligence is defined more broadly and, as an additional feature for Web Intelligence, the use of systems with Artificial Intelligence (AI), i.e. systems that can react better to the needs of users in a semantic network.

The largest forum for the AI-influenced term of Web Intelligence is the international conference series Atlantic Web Intelligence Conference (AWIC), which has been taking place since 2003:

The lectures and papers submitted there are published in the proceedings of this conference series.
