Dieter Spath

Dieter Spath (born April 23, 1952 in Lichtenau (Middle Franconia) ) is a German ergonomist . Since 2016 he has been head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Organization as well as the Institute for Industrial Engineering and Technology Management at the University of Stuttgart , before that he was in this position from 2002 to 2013. Since February 2017 he has been one of two presidents of acatech - German Academy of Science and Engineering. Spath is one of the most important researchers in the field of future working environments.

Life

After graduating from high school in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Spath studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich from 1971 to 1975 . There he became a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Aenania Munich in the CV . From 1976 to 1981 he was a research assistant and later academic advisor at the Institute for Machine Tools and Industrial Management at the Technical University of Munich. In 1981 he received his doctorate with the thesis Performance Limiting Influences on Metal Band Saw Machines . In 1981 he worked for the KASTO group of companies, from 1988 as managing director.

In 1992, Dieter Spath received a call as full professor at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) and, associated with it, the management of the Institute for Machine Tools and Industrial Engineering (wbk). From 1996 to 1998 he was Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, from 1996 to 2001 a member of the Senate Committee and the Approval Committee for Collaborative Research Centers at the German Research Foundation (DFG) .

In 2002 Spath moved to the Institute for Work Science and Technology Management (IAT) at the University of Stuttgart as a professor and at the same time became head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Organization (IAO). From 2008 to 2009 he was Dean of the Faculty of Construction, Production and Vehicle Technology. Dieter Spath was elected to the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech) in 2003 , was its vice-president from 2009 to 2012 and is its president in 2017. Among other things, he is a member of the board of trustees of the Georg Schlesinger Prize . Spath has published numerous publications on the challenges of the future world of work and knowledge management .

From October 2013 to September 2016, Spath was CEO of Wittenstein AG . After three years, he took over his old position at Fraunhofer IAO in October 2016, combined with the management of the cooperating IAT at the University of Stuttgart .
