The Freie Schule Marburg has existed as an all-day school and daycare center since 1986. Children aged two to 13 learn and play there. This makes it one of the older free alternative schools in Germany.

construction

At the Free School Marburg there is

  • the Kita (day care center) for children from 2 until they switch to school
  • two younger school groups for grades 1 to 3, each with up to 15 children and one and a half teacher positions
  • two older school groups for school years 4 to 6 with up to 15 children each and one and a half teacher positions

The sponsoring association, in which parents and the educational team are members, rejected the extension to the tenth grade in spring 2006.

School concept

The Freie Schule Marburg is a democratic school . Children and team members ( educators ) decide together in group meetings, school meetings and house meetings about the organization of everyday life, projects and rules. The meetings are led by children. The majority principle applies. Each person has one vote.

The framework for the decisions is the educational concept that the adults decide in the sponsoring association.

In addition to the democratic approach and self-determination, there are special features of the concept

  • Freedom from coercion, grades and evaluation
  • a learning term that understands learning holistically and not just in class
  • Cross-age groups
  • a colorful variety of forms of learning
  • a constant change and further learning of the school itself, since it is not subject to a dogma like Waldorf or Montessori schools.

After the sixth school year, the children switch to the seventh grade of the state school system, according to the Free School Marburg mostly to the integrated comprehensive school Richtsbergschule in Marburg.

A graduate survey has shown that a high proportion of former children of the Marburg Free School have graduated from high school , are on their way to high school or are already studying.
