David Stockman

David Alan Stockman (born November 10, 1946 in Fort Hood , Texas ) is an American politician . Between 1977 and 1981 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives . He then served as Director of the Office of Management and Budget in the United States Cabinet until 1985 .

Career

David Stockman attended St. Joseph, Michigan public schools . In 1964 he graduated from Lakeshore High School . He then studied until 1968 at Michigan State University in East Lansing and, with interruptions, until 1975 at Harvard University .

Politically, Stockman became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1970 and 1972 he was on the staff of Congressman John B. Anderson of Illinois . Between 1972 and 1975 he was Executive Director of the Republican Congressmen ( Executive Director of the Republican Conference ). In the 1976 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded Edward Hutchinson on January 3, 1977 . After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on January 27, 1981 .

Stockmann resigned because he was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to head the Office of Management and Budget in his cabinet . He held this office until August 1, 1985. In the following years Stockman worked in the private sector. From 1985 to 1988 he was a director of the New York City- based bank Salomon Brothers . He then served on the boards of several investment firms. In 2003, Stockman became chairman of the board of directors of Collins & Aikman , an automotive supplier company that later went bankrupt. He came under suspicion of fraud. However, no charges were brought.

David Stockman is married to Jennifer Blei, with whom he has two children.
