Fort Hood
With an area of 880 square kilometers, Fort Hood is one of the largest military bases in the US Army . The base is roughly in the center of the state of Texas, roughly between the cities of Waco and Austin near Killeen in Bell County and Coryell County . The base was in 1942 as a base for US troops in World War II founded, named the foundation after the General of the Confederate Army John Bell Hood . There are currently around 45,000 soldiers permanently stationed at Fort Hood . Together with Fort Bragg, the base is the largest of the US Army and was the largest military base in the western world before the fall of the USSR .
In Fort Hood , the US 1st Cavalry Division and the III. US corps stationed with support units. The base commander is currently Lieutenant General Paul E. Funk.

Incidents
2009 rampage
On November 5th, 2009 around 1.30pm local time, 8.30pm CET , there was a rampage at the base . The perpetrator, Nidal Malik Hasan , a military psychologist scheduled for an Afghanistan mission , fell heavily armed and shouted Allahu akbar into a medical station on the premises, killed thirteen people with several firearms and injured 31 others, some seriously. The police managed to overwhelm him with a gunshot wound and arrested him.
On August 23, 2013, Hasan was found guilty on all charges by a jury panel. On August 28, 2013, the death sentence was announced.
Shootout 2014
On April 2, 2014, at least four people were killed in a shooting, including the perpetrator himself, and 16 others were injured. The military base was then temporarily closed. The shooter, a soldier named Ivan Lopez, judged himself. The act is listed as an "incident among soldiers", a terrorist background is ruled out according to the current state of the investigation.
