James C. Miller

James C. Miller III (born June 25, 1942 in Atlanta , Georgia ) is an American economist , university professor and business manager who was also director of the Office of Management and Budget .

Life

Professor and Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission

After attending school, Miller studied business administration at the University of Georgia , where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA in Business) in 1964 . He then completed a postgraduate degree in economics at the University of Virginia in 1969 with a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D. Economics). As early as 1968 he briefly took over a professorship at Georgia State University , but then switched to the staff of the US Department of Transportation as a senior economist in 1969 and was then a consultant from 1972 to 1974. He was also a professor at Texas A&M University between 1972 and 1974 and a staff member of the Brookings Institution .

He was then a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) from 1975 to 1977 and then moved to the National Science Foundation as a consultant until 1981 . He was then a member of the Federal Trade Commission between 1981 and 1985 and at the same time worked for the American Bar Association .

Director of the OMB and other functions

He was then appointed director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) by President Ronald Reagan in October 1985 and held this office until October 1988. At the same time, he was also a member of the National Security Council at that time .

Miller has been a Senior Fellow of the Hoover Institution since 1988 and was also chairman of Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE), a conservative think tank that spoke out against taxes and regulation, between 1988 and 2003 . In 1997 he also became a Fellow of the Mercatus Center, a market-oriented think tank affiliated with George Mason University . Miller has also served on the Board of Governors of the US Postal Service since 2003 and on the Board of Directors of the Americans for Prosperity (AFP) since 2004 , which supported numerous Republican candidates for the Conservative Tea Party movement in the 2010 congressional election .

Miller is also involved in numerous other institutions and organizations and was a member of the Board of Visitors of George Mason University and the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs as well as an advisor to Freddie Mac and a member of the Advisory Committee of the Progress and Freedom Foundation. Finally, he was part of the staff of the American Economic Association (AEA), the Council for National Policy (CNP), the Southern Economic Association and the Tax Foundation.
