Daniel Wafena Bell (born July 23, 1891 in Kinderhook , Pike County , Illinois , † October 3, 1971 in Washington, DC ) was an American government official, director of the Bureau of the Budget and economic manager .

biography

After leaving school, he first studied at Gem City Business College . A later postgraduate study of law at the National University in Washington, DC , he graduated in 1924 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.).

On September 1, 1934, he was appointed director of the Bureau of the Budget , the predecessor of today's Office of Management and Budget , by US President Franklin D. Roosevelt , and was thus a member of Roosevelt's expanded cabinet . He held until his appointment to this office Secretary in the Ministry of Finance of the United States ( Under Secretary of the Treasury held) on 14 April 1939th He held the post of State Secretary until the end of Roosevelt's term in April 1945.

After the end of World War II he was temporarily president of the American Security and Trust Company . He was also President of the American Red Cross in Washington, DC for some time
