Franklin D. Roosevelt Cabinet
Franklin D. Roosevelt served as President of the United States longer than any of his predecessors and successors. After his success over incumbent Herbert Hoover in 1932 , he was elected three more times. He died shortly after starting his fourth term in April 1945.
Despite Roosevelt's long presidency, there were two ministers who remained in office for the full length of time: Interior Secretary Harold L. Ickes and Labor Secretary Frances Perkins . She was also the first woman ever to be appointed to the US cabinet . With Treasury Secretary William H. Woodin , who resigned after less than a year for health reasons, and Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox , who died in office, the Democrat Roosevelt also appointed two Republicans to his government. Moreover, due to his multiple re-elections, he was the only President under whom three Vice-Presidents served. The latter, Harry S. Truman , had to take over the presidency as Roosevelt's deputy after only 82 days.
