Oberlaussa is a scattered settlement near the Gesäuse , on the border between Upper Austria and Styria . The Styrian part is part of the market town of Sankt Gallen , the Upper Austrian part is part of the Weyer market .

Location and history

The place is along the L 550 on the Laussabach , about halfway up the ascent to the Hengstpass . The north roof of the Haller Walls extends to the south, to the north the peaks and walls (rock fragments) of the Reichraminger Hintergebirge .

The steirische part of the location comprises the rotting Gjaid - in the side valley of Pölzalmbachs - and Hofstelle cantle . The Upper Austrian part includes the scattered Holzgraben houses - in the side valley of the same name - and the Krennbauer and Zeckerkeusche farms .

In the past decades, the town, which was once mainly inhabited by forest workers, has experienced an extraordinary decline in population. In addition to the few houses that are still permanently inhabited (2010: six people with their main residence in Oberlaussa - forestry family, professional hunter family, a forestry worker), there are several weekend houses and second homes in Vorderzwiesel .

The Pölzalm and (further up) the Großschoberbaueralm in the Gjaid, the Simandlalm and the Peterbaueralm on both sides of the Laussabach near Hinterzwiesel and the Veitlbaueralm and Grabenbaueralm in the side ditches on the south side are also in the area of the village .
