The Laussabach is a mountain river in the Upper Austrian - Styrian Limestone Alps . In its entire course it forms the border between the two federal states .

course

It is created on the Laussabaueralm by the confluence of the Karbach and Rotkreuzbach rivers , which arise at the Hengstpass . It flows through Oberlaussa and flows into the Enns at Altenmarkt near Sankt Gallen . Shortly before the mouth of it passes through a section with deep into dolomite cut scours and an approximately 6 m high waterfall. This approximately 170 m long cataract stretch is designated as a natural monument (list entries Upper Austria and Styria ).

In the summer months, the river is popular with kayakers .

The brook must not be confused with the Laussabach of the same name , which also flows through the municipality of Laussa in the Steyr-Land district and flows into the Enns on the right bank of Losenstein .

history

The earliest written document is from 1139 and is "Luzach". The name goes back to the old Slavic lúža (swamp, puddle).
