Losenstein is a municipality with 1627 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in Upper Austria in the Steyr-Land district . The community was originally part of the Weyer judicial district , since January 1, 2014, the community has belonged to the Steyr judicial district .
geography
Losenstein is located in the Upper Austrian Traunviertel . The extension is 8.1 km from north to south. From west to east 4.5 km. 45.9% of the area is forested, 39.7% is used for agriculture.
Community structure
The community includes the village of Losenstein. Cadastral communities are Losenstein and Stiedelsbach.
Losenstein borders the communities Laussa , Reichraming and Ternberg .
history
Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria , the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century . During this time Losenstein Castle was also built. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns .
During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.
Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria . After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.
Population development
In 1991 the community had 1747 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 1735 inhabitants.

Culture and sights
- Losenstein castle ruins : 12th century; one of the largest and oldest castle ruins in Upper Austria. The rock of the castle ruins in the center of the village also serves as a climbing area ("castle rocks") and as a viewing platform. The ruin consists of two main buildings that characterize the townscape of Losenstein.

Sports
The "Hohe Dirn" is a year-round destination. There are also well-developed hiking and cycling trails as well as climbing gardens with routes of all levels of difficulty.
The indoor swimming pool in Losenstein as well as sauna and wellness facilities offer further sporting activities.
The ASVÖ Sportverein Losenstein (SVL) is one of the larger clubs in the region and unites the sections football, swimming, tennis, winter sports and, since 2011, volleyball. The club currently has around 600 members (as of 2010) and has sports facilities such as football pitches including a training field and three clay tennis courts, which can also be used by guests.
There is also the Losensteiner Stockschützenverein.
Economy and Infrastructure
The companies located in the municipality of Losenstein offer qualified jobs. Losenstein is a commuter community, so that the employees of many companies come from other communities.
Losenstein station is on a section of the Rudolfsbahn .
