Aschach an der Steyr is a municipality with 2312 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in Upper Austria in the Steyr-Land district in the Traunviertel . The responsible judicial district is Steyr .
geography
Aschach an der Steyr is located in the Traunviertel . The extension is 5.6 kilometers from north to south and 7.3 kilometers from west to east. 16.3% of the area is forested, 73.3% is used for agriculture. The highest point is the high lift, which is 640 m.

history
Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns .
During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.
Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

The municipal council has a total of 25 members. With the municipal council and mayoral elections in Upper Austria in 2015 , the municipal council has the following distribution: 13 ÖVP, 5 SPÖ, 4 FPÖ and 3 GRÜNE.

Population development
In 1991 the municipality had 1,817 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 2,129 inhabitants. As both the birth balance and the migration balance remained positive, the population continued to grow, to 2,213 in 2011 and 2,266 in 2018.

Blazon : In blue over a golden three-mountain, two upright, turned, silver hip horns with the mouthpieces pointing downwards, golden fittings and silver cords. The municipality colors are blue-white-green. The three hills symbolize Aschach's largest mountain, the Hochhub. The two horns in the municipal coat of arms and the restaurant "Kaiser in der Saaß" commemorate September 25, 1732, when Emperor Karl VI took part in a hunt in the Saaß forest and 80 deer were shot.
